I regularly commute in China. The cars are starting to win out here, but the battle is far from over. The main road into the center of town has just had a huge makeover as they put a subway beneath it. The bike lanes, previously two protected lanes on either side, have less protection now, and the cages are starting to use them more.
Hoping for a fuel tax to slowly kill them, or the Chinese cyclists to assert their power and slow the cars in the bicycle lane down enough that the cars choose to use their own section of road.
