Dan, it's mostly just the pictures you've seen.

If I had to guess... while climbing:
70% of the time we are both seated
20% of time I am standing and Ruth is seated
10% of the time we are both standing.

Rough estimate though.

I will say though, you need to upshift 2-3 gears when you stand. Otherwise it gets sloppy and does not help.
