Two local shops, one that's gotten far better and another that still sucks hard.

When I first bought my frame -- with semi horizontal drops -- I went to a few shops in DC to check on pricing, see who could help me out, etc. At a shop in Dupont on P St. I was told my bike was essentially a fad and why would I ever want to do such a thing. Having been back recently to get a seat post, the shop hasn't gotten much better. They serve to sell comfort bikes that will gather dust in the garage.

At CityBikes, another shop I went to in Adams Morgan, the mechanic told me there was no way my bike would ever be a fixed gear. I asked him about proper gear ratios, the eno hub, hacking off the drops and welding track ends, etc. No can do. Can't help you.

****ers, the lot of them. However, I do have to admit CityBikes has gotten far better and I haven't seen that punk of a bike mechanic there in a while.
