Unfortunately in my province, you can only use the credit union that your bank account is at. If you use another credit union or another bank, you are charged mad service fees (unless they've changed this in the last year.) My friend used to mail her paycheques home to her mother so she could deposit them, since she couldn't do it anywhere in the city. It was supremely annoying, not to mention a strain when you are a student. Credit unions here are great for savings accounts, though, and if you don't need to use an ATM. They are trying to consolidate them somewhat, so I'll give them some ... credit.
