True, but then if his wheels were worth 150, then he was already out 150$. But he sold them, and gained 150, then took that money (which he was previously out) plus 250 to buy his new wheels. By using the logic you are saying, if his old wheels were worth 150, he was out 150$ whether they were sitting on his bike, or the money was used to buy new ones. Only 250$ actually "effected" him in the sense that because he had to get new ones he would have to shell out an extra 250$.
