If the housing you bought is the one with the longitudinal wires and kevalr winding to hold it all together then yes you can use it for the shifter as well with no issues. But if it's the less expensive Jagwire housing that is spirally wound under the black outer cover then no. It's too compresive and will mess up the shifting.
