I would take the time to find out just how bad "the fun stuff" is. Take that information and use it to calculate how long you would have to ride or exersise to burn it off. This worked very well for me when I was starting out. Having a single drink that would result in 45 minutes of hill climbs or two hours in the saddle made the drink far less desirable. That said balance is required in any program an you have to treat yourself from time to time.

Just take the time to figure things out.
