Checked out the link. I understand why someone would want to ride a single speed or fixed gear bike (which is what the site - and the site it links to - explains). But what I don't understand is why someone would want to ride a single speed or fixed gear MOUNTAIN bike. I mean, I guess you 'can' go off-road with a single gear, but why would anyone want to? Or is it that these folks are using their MTB as an SUV and just riding it on the road? If so, why not ride a road bike fixie - surely it's lighter and quicker?

I mean, surely fixies are all about simplifying and speeding up the ride, but as I see it, MTBs slow it down and complicate matters with suspension and inefficient knobby tyres. I guess I just don't get it.
