I have an older XO1, which I love dearly. Last season, our cyclocross team had some sponsorship from Kona & team members bought a whole gaggle of them. Quite frankly, I think you will get the most bang out of your buck with the Kona. It certainly proved itself on the National level as well within our team.

I don't think you will go wrong with either choice. I am doing exactly what you want to do with your bike. In summer, I race duathlons & in fall, cyclocross. In between, it serves as my commuter & weekend fun bike.
