LED output per watt is so much better than any halogen, it would be well worth the time to look into it. I haven't seen many 6V LEDs out there, but I'm sure there are some. You might want to look at bulbs made for hub generators, they usually run 6V. From personal experience, a 4W LED is brighter than a 35W halogen given the same pattern. It's a huge difference.
