I think it has more to do with being uninformed consumers. You have to pretty knowledgable, or have done your homework pricing parts and bikes, to know the price differences between a hardrock disc pro 2002 and a hardrock comp from 2003 (just examples) and that this disc brake is 25 less than that one and that this fork is $100 more than that one. That is one of the many reasons why it is not the best choice for a newbie to jump on ebay. Personally, even if the bike is 1-2 years used, %50 of retail is the max I would even consider, especially when you start talking about suspension
