They're also good for boat towing. The large gap above the rear tire is a plus. But for large packages I usually use the trailer that also carries the bike's suitcase. I took a piece of plywood and drilled a few holes in it (3 for the trailer bolts and some along the sides for attaching bungies or ropes) to convert it to a general utility trailer.
