cutting the steerer ain't exactly brain surgery. once you have the stem where you like it, mark the steerer at the top of the stem. take off the fork. make a new mark a little lower than the original mark, say half of a cm. bang the star nut down below the new mark. cut with a pipe cutter. file gently. put 'er back together.
