It's been my experience with the high-clamp, bottom swing version of the LX 48t-max FD that it really wants a 12t drop between the large and middle ring. When i had a 48/38/28 on my bike, shifting was consistently yucky. When i moved to a 48/36/26, everything got awesome. You might be able to tune it sufficiently, but if you can't, just grab a 48t ring.
