Shimano 6700 vs 6701 chain?

I just ordered/received a new 6701 chain thinking it was the newest version of the 6700. On the back of the box it says "For Double Chainring Only". It has 116 links. I have a 105 triple crankset on the bike. Does anyone know why this is only for a double? Is there something differnt about the design of the chain for a double or triple? I know it is a directional chain.

Thanks!
