Disc brakes at the moment. Unfortunately that ring lock explanation sounds pretty plausible
never mind! Am converting to fixed gear so have to forego the disc brake therefore was wondering if I could put a different brake on the bike! Oh well, not to worry.
@BCRider, I have just built a fixed wheel that has a braking surface, so that is not an issue. Thanks though.
