Not all valve extenders suck. The Vittoria/Tufo types that you use with removable core presta valves are perfectly fine for me.

You remove the valve core on your presta tube, screw the valve extender on the tube, tighten with little plastic tool, then valve core goes on top of extender, pump tires, presto!
