There is a dealer of Dutch bikes here in Seattle, and I have to say that I'm not a fan. They're prohibitively expensive (thank you, Euro), and they're not appropriate for our local topography. A big, heavy, clunky bike with limited gearing probably works great for Holland, which is very flat, but if you're trying to negotiate big hills, which are everywhere here, Dutch bikes work much less well. I think a better model for hauling big, heavy stuff in this environment is the Extracycle. I'm seriously considering selling my neglected car and using the proceeds to buy a Big Dummy and Extracycle set to haul big stuff. As much as I admire Bakfiets, I wouldn't even consider one for my own actual use where I live.
