Building a better bike stand

So, I've decided that I'd like to start building a few frames, but I don't even have my own workstand yet, so I reckon it'd be a good exercise to try brazing one up. I plan on brazing it to a 50lb barbel for a heavy base that doesn't take up a lot of space like the park ones. I have some schemes for my own clamp design as well, but I need to make a prototype to try first!

Anyway, I'm asking for some ideas for what kind of things I can do to make myself a nicer stand. I'm already going to add a little shelf with a magnetic tray so I can stay organized. In general I suppose it'll look a bit like a park pcs-9, with telescoping tubes for height adjustment. I haven't settled on a size yet, gonna see if there is any spare tubing laying around work to use.

I invite any thoughts and/or criticisms of my hair-brained scheme! I also have access to a bunch of scrap frames, so I could use that material.
