Why do you feel compelled to support your LBS?

Are you the type of person who only shops at one clothing shop, one electronic goods shop, one hardware shop, one grocery store ... ?

If you are, then maybe its in your nature to limit yourself to one purchasing choice, and maybe that works for you. But if you will shop in a variety of clothing shops, electronic shops, hardware shops, grocery stores, etc. for convenience, price, etc. ... why are you limiting yourself when it comes to bicycle shops? There's nothing special about a bicycle shop. It's no different than the place you bought your last pair of pants or CD.

We buy most of our cycling stuff online because our LBSs are anywhere from about 75 - 150 km away. So an LBS trip is usually an all-day event where we do the rounds and check out all our favourite LBSs in a 300 km round trip, whereas ordering online involves a bit of browsing, placing the order, and having it delivered to our door ... much more convenient, much less expensive. But that said, this weekend we travelled about 250 km to the beach, with the intent of doing the beach thing, cycling in an area we haven't spent a lot of time in, and buying ourselves a tandem. So, we're supporting a different LBS today.
