Luckily I work at a hospital so my insurance is both excellent and affordable. After my last crash, my hospital bill was over $35,000 and they paid for everything. All I can say is that if you plan on racing and riding aggressively, have good insurance. You might (hopefully) never have a need for it, but if you ever do, the sense of relief of knowing you won't be paying hospital bills for the next 20 years is amazing.
