i have wide feet as well.
sidi makes wide shoes, and i've tried on a number of Specialized "body geometry" shoes, and they fit very comfortably. actually going to buy some in the next week or two.
also, on the "summer socks" thing.
i've found that
Costco sells some Adidas socks that are essentially identical as "summer cycling socks", only you can get a 6 pack for $10 instead of having to pay $10 a pair (or more) for these "cycling specific" socks. <-- they're made of the same materials, even have thinner (see through) material on the top of the foot, as well as a compression ring around where the arch is at.
the socks in the link above are almost identical to the ones you can get in a 6 pack at Costco (i think the ones at costco are a year older styles).
