From Goose Hollow to OHSU almost isn't worth getting the bike out. That's only a mile or two- walk! If it's too much, the Streetcar covers most of that route.
My preference for riding in downtown would be a beater-ish fixie or single-speed. You can get away with a U-lock and an expensive bike, but why risk it?
