I guess what I am wondering if she got a bike with disc brakes would that be easier than the standard brakes for her to stop?
Question: do drop bars matter (to her)? If not, then she really should try out a bike with good hydraulic discs (dual piston), and some kind of (again, good -- e.g. Shimano Alfine) 8 or 11 speed internal hub. Could be a solution; hydraulic discs require very, very little hand 'strength' at all under normal conditions.
