I'm curious if it's too much bike to the point that it would hurt me. If not I don't see the downside. I understand the warranty side, but feel the components difference offsets that to some degree.

One thing is sure. No one "needs" a bike like either one of the bikes you asked about. There is no snob appeal when it comes to "recreational only riding" since you can show off for a lot less money.
