I don't think there's anything wrong with having a kickstand mounting plate on a mountain bike. Nothing wrong with keeping the option (lots of mtb city conversions around), and not enough weight or obstruction for me to make any argument against it.

Since I ride my mountain bike to a from the trails I ride having a kickstand mounted could be useful IF it doesn't rattle or move/drop while I'm riding.
