Carpe Diabolus

I just picked up a Topeak TourGuide handlebar bag. The kit comes with two adapters for diff. diameter bars. Unfortunately, the diameter of the stock bars on the LHT fall between the adapter sizes. I'm thinking I can pad out the bar with a couple wraps of an old inner tube, but am concerned that it will still slip. Anyone here have similar experience?
