I carry more than that for a ride. I carry at the minimum:
1) a pump
2) patch kit
3) spare tube
4) mini tool
5) cash
6) cell phone
7) tire irons
8) pressure guage if its not built into the pump.
sometimes I carry a CO2 inflator with at least 3 cartridges.
I don't like to carry a CO2 inflator without a pump, because if I get more than one flat then I'm screwed. I normally carry at least three cartridges because 1 is used to fill the spare tube and the second is to find the hole in a second flat and the third is for filling the repaired tube. I like pumps since they don't run out of air.
