Yes. Due to the high cadence and high power, the 500 taxes the lower portion of the lungs. So it is like the 300 meters only you can push yourself harder since it is not weight bearing.
As with track and field, there are no easy events at this level of track racing. It is all hard.
BTW, it took until Friday for the soreness to leave my legs from Tuesday's race.
