I wouldn't consider either of them that different than the other. The derailleurs are all mid-low end. (Sram x7 or Shimano Deore would be an improvement).
Its odd to me that you haven't mentioned a price difference. If the shop isn't willing to deal on the 2011 and you like the 2012 color better.. seems like an easy one to call for the '12.
