Certainly take your bike. If you're living near the medical school you wouldn't have to ride too far to get out of town to the south west. Richmond park is only about three miles west of there, and there's always a bunch of roadies doing circuits there on a Sunday. Gritty Northerners like me suspect them of being posers, but actually some of them are pretty fast. And once you get out into Surrey there are lots of nice rides.
