I started drinking lemon Gatorade on long ride days and felt much better. Half the bottle at breakfast and the rest on the way, besides lots of water. It just seems to settle my whole body down very nicely, ready for the exertion. The OP likely got a bit too hot also. The sugar in Coke helps but is a poor hydrater.
