Any bike in a bike shop--even the steel ones--will be significantly lighter and better made. A steel Giant Boulder weighs in at about 28lbs. The aluminum ones are around 26.5lbs best I can recall. Don't waste your money upgrading a dept. store bike... the components are low quality and it will just be a money pit for you. If you buy a Giant Boulder or Boulder SE for $299(us) it will be a far better bike for you in the long run.
You basically created a list of random parts, and you didn't take into account the labor to build the wheel on the hub, new bottom bracket and all the other labor prices. You will be well over the cost of a Boulder by the time its all said and done.
