This makes a lot of sense to me. And, I'll hazard a speculation that for most people saddle matters more than chamois in the grand scheme of things. I have six or seven different sets of bibs/shorts and they all seem work pretty well regardless of chamois thickness. I do prefer bibs with a thicker chamois in cool weather for warming reasons.
