On the hand numbness, you might consider getting a professional fit at the bike shop. Not the "get in and get out" fit job but a true fit. Will help the hands, etc.
Concur on both points.
Haven't found durable gloves yet. I did have horrible numbness issues, then a bike fitting fixed that. My hands were still numb for the next few days but it slowly went away and hasn't happened since. A properly fitting bike should not be causing numbness.
