Of cities in the LA area, Santa Monica is probably second to Long Beach in terms of being bike-friendly. There have always been a fair amount of bike lanes here, but with the new
bike action plan, Santa Monica is actively looking to take a big step forward--green bike lanes to make them more obvious, separated bike lanes, bike-friendly streets. The remodeled Santa Monica Place mall also has a new Bike Center in it, offering secure monitored bike racks for everyone, plus lockers and showers if you buy a membership--would be really handy for people who work in the area.
