You must have been looking at the 09 model that most retailers were discounting due to the updated 2011 model coming out. The 09 frame also cost just under $600 when it was new. There are quite a few differences between the two models: The 2011 comes with a replaceable derailleur hanger, suspension corrected fork, different geometry/handling and different tubing. I have an 09 and love it and you can still find them on ebay. I wouldn't even consider a 2011 since I don't have the need for a suspension corrected fork and a replaceable derailleur hanger on a steel frame is silly and makes it necessary to carry a spare.
