Those are classically styled, cold forged crank arms made using modern high strength alloys. If they look skinnier its because today hollow construction is common which makes arms lighter, not stronger. Those resemble the Shimano CX-400 and Shimano 600 crank arms I took off some bicycles last year. They were 19 and 24 years old respectively but still in perfect shape so those ones will probably last you a while.
