The bike shops in my area let you go for a 10-15 minute test ride, when I purchased my touring bike, I told them that I would be gone for 45 minutes to an hour to see if it were comfortable on a longer ride, the manager didn't like that idea but I did leave my BMW at their store, so he let me do it.
