It's a gimmick. Dahons wheel along just fine by holding the seat. When you're finished wheeling it, it uses the bottom of the seat post to stand securely. Notice the photo doesn't show the seat post/seat?
The contraption mounts to the end of the seatpost. You can see the seat in the photo.
