Bikes: Colnago Super (Campy/Cinelli), 70s vintage. Recent Ultegra-rigged Kestrel Evoke. Gary Fisher Superfly 100 and hard-tail Superfly. Older Marin mtb. And a 1968 Schwinn Continental I just can't manage to drop. Also a Scattante CFR w/Ultegra triple.

Spoke Buster Needs Wheel Advice

I use a Scattante CFR with an Ultegra triple as a makeshift touring-type bike. The wheels run 20 bladed spokes that are laced 1x. I weigh about 240 and have recently been breaking rear wheel spokes (was gently pedaling a downhill when the last one broke). I don't want to be stranded out in the middle of Western Nevada by a spoke failure so I'm thinking about a stronger wheelset.

A couple online suppliers offer the Mavic Open Pro rims on either 6600 or 6700 Ultegra hubs for around $300. They are laced with 32 double-tapered 14/15 gauge DT spokes, 2x I believe. That sounds like a much sturdier wheel than what I'm presently running.

Do you all think that wheelset would be good for my application? Any better ideas I should consider?

Thanks for your guidance.
