My recollection during the Korean War of the weather:
Winters: minimal snow but 40 below zero. If you spit it would go 'plink' as the frozen liquid hit the ground. Wore about everything I owned when on night time guard duty/patrol.
Summer: quite hot and very smelly from all the human waste in the rice paddies. Used to wear a straw papasan hat; military did not approve! Got lectured by a colonel; told him: "Why don't you and I go for a stroll before the sun sets; you wear your choice of headgear and I'll wear my papasan hat . . let's see who gets shot at." Colonel answered: 'No on the walk, but you can wear your papasan hat.'
Spent time in Taegu, Osan, Seoul, Inchon and Youngdongpo.
