Enclosed cam QR looks better on the right in my opinion with the lever neatly tucked behind the fork leg.
Doing something the conventional way and paying attention to detail can be mutually exclusive.
As to the bike--are you using it for commuting? I took an old 820 and made a commuter/tourer I've been very happy with.
