I had no idea they make some much grinding type noise when used for more than a few seconds?

Is it just my 240 pounds or is somting wong?

Could be they need cleaning. Sometimes you can get a bit of crud in them and they make a racket. If they are wet they can squeal a lot. I took a ride that turned into a very wet ride with a friend who also had disc brakes - I'm a Clyde and he isn't, but both our brakes were squealing away when we stopped.

The noise can be irritating but they stop a lot better than rim brakes.
