I'm sorry to hear that.

Sometimes when I stop and take off my helmet I clip the strap through the rear wheel, and through an object if there's one handy. Sure it can be undone but it'll take a bit of time to figure out how. Also shift the derailleur but don't pedal, so its hung up mid shift. That'll make it harder for someone to ride off with it.
