Distance i am not sure however i have always felt if cardio and conditioning are a goal than intensity should be your aim . for healthy cardio you must maintain a specific heart beat rate for atleast if i remember correctly 25min you cannot drop below that rate for the full 25min and for healthy not athletic type cardio it only needs to be done once a day. i did a quick search for you and found this it shows you how to calculate you target heart rate and explains a little
