The rude fellows... they did not!
In fact, as shown in the video, one of them actually passes another rider on the right, which is kind of a no-no in my book. The ride organizers told us explicitly not to do that. My guess is that people riding at a certain speed or above are generally going to be holding their line fairly well and normal rules are suspended, so to speak.
