Most *quality* non-folding bikes range from $700 to a second-mortgage price of $10,000, with a lot between the $1000 to $3000 range. Most folding bikes compare quite favourably in terms of quality vs cost.
Basic rule of engineering:
good, fast, cheap - pick any two. If you're on a folder on a regular basis, cheap is the last thing you want.
