10 miles on the Minuteman today, escorting my consort on her first ride of the season. Bradycycling: slow, social, attentive. Varieties of the "On your left" experience from passing riders, lots of drama with that, you could hear the adrenaline squirting out the ducts; a nice opportunity to reflect on how human vocal production encodes affect in the first formant; pure gold for a speech researcher, the On Your Left corpus. One young woman on a hybrid had such an operatic delivery that I responded "No sh*t?" in spite of myself. Father's Day was observed on the Minuteman with absolutely charming displays of active fathering, Dad and kids out for a ride together, eliciting fond memories of my own turn at that, and my own kids' early forays on two wheels. Didn't hit any. The Minuteman continues to uphold its status as one of our vital civic meeting places.
