The Edge is a bike GPS. Better for car use means worse for bike use; it's small, light, aerodynamic, and waterproof.
Can't you update the maps on your car GPS? I paid $450 instead of $650 for my edge in part because I got it without maps. Then I loaded the OSM ones, for free; they make an export in Garmin format.
